How to use the book
- Read it slowly. Say each isiXhosa word out loud, then the English. Repeat it as many times as your little one likes.
- Point and name. Let your child point to the picture while you say the word.
- Look for the red arrows. They show you exactly which part of the picture the word is naming.
- Connect it to real life. If there is an iqhiya, an ingcawe or an ingqayi in your family, show it to your child. Seeing and touching the real thing makes the word stick.
- Tell a story. Share who wore it, who used it and where it comes from. Our culture lives in these stories.
- Come back often. Little ones learn through repetition, so a few pages at a time is perfect.
